Connect to Staff & Student Wireless (DETNSW)

This article gives step by step instructions, specific to your operating system, to connect to the DETNSW WiFi. This configuration normally only needs to be done once - your settings will be saved and you will just need to connect to the DETNSW access point in the future.

This is the new DoE INTERNET TO THE EDGE internet connection that is faster & more secure. Only available to CHSC staff & students, visiting schools will need to configure proxy settings.


NOTE:

To connect to the DETNSW wireless network you need to know:

1st Login (DETNSW WiFi Network) = DoE credentials firstname.lastnameX. These are the same details you use for the Student/Staff Portal + Email + CHSC Moodle + Stile App.

STUDENTS:  firstname.lastnameX@detnsw

STAFF: firstname.lastnameX@det.nsw.edu.au


2nd Login (DoE Internet To Edge Portal) = CHEC credentials (e.g. jsmith or jsmith700). These are the same details you use to login the on-campus computers. You need to have logged into a campus computer & changed the password from the original password.

Which operating system does your computer or mobile device use?


The following step by step process will connect your Windows 10 computer to DETNSW

Step 1: Ensure Wireless is enabled on your device

Step 2: Select the Wireless icon on the lower right of corner the taskbar


Step 3: Select 'DETNSW' and press 'Connect'

Step 4: Enter your DoE credentials and select 'OK'

STAFF: firstname.lastnameX@det.nsw.edu.au

Step 5: A Windows Security Alert prompt will appear, select 'Connect'

Step 6: Launch a web browser, go to http://detnsw.net

The following step by step process will connect your Windows 8 computer to DETNSW.

Step 1: Select the Wi-Fi icon on the lower right of corner the taskbar near clock, select DETNSW

Step 2: Enter your DoE credentials and select 'OK'

STUDENTS:  firstname.lastnameX@detnsw

STAFF: firstname.lastnameX@det.nsw.edu.au

Step 3: Windows will now verify your information and connect, click on 'Connect' button

Step 4: Launch a web browser, go to http://detnsw.net

The following step by step process will connect your Mac computer to DETNSW.

Step 1: Ensure Wireless is enabled on your device

Step 2: Select the Wireless icon found in the top right hand corner of the task bar

Step 3: Select 'DETNSW'

Step 4: Enter your DoE credentials and select 'Join'

Step 5: Click on 'Continue' when the authentication prompt appears

Step 6: Enter the local administrator username and password and click on 'Update Settings'

Step 7: Launch a web browser, go to http://detnsw.net

The following step by step process will connect your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch to DETNSW.

Step 1: Select the 'Settings' menu icon on your device

Select the Wi-Fi option, turn Wi-Fi on

Step 2:  Select 'DETNSW' from the list of available wireless networks

Enter your DoE credentials

Step 3: Select 'Join'

Step 4: You will be prompted with a Certificate, select 'Trust'

Step 5: Tap the button next to 'DETNSW'

Step 6: Launch a web browser, go to http://detnsw.net

The following step by step process will connect your mobile devices running the Android operating system (version 9 and later) to DETNSW.

NOTE:

What Android version is my device? System > Advanced > System Update OR Settings > About Phone

If your device is lower than 9.0 you may need to have (manual proxy settings = proxy.det.nsw.edu.au port 8080) 

Due to multiple version of the Android Operating System we are unable to provide complete connection instructions for each device. It will be similar to this.

Step 1: Select the 'Settings' menu icon on your device

Select the 'Wi-Fi' option, turn Wi-Fi on

Step 2: Select DETNSW from the list of available wireless networks

Some Android devices will require you to tap and hold DETNSW and select Modify Network

Enter the following:

  • EAP method: Select 'PEAP'
  • Phase-2 authentication: Select 'MSCHAPV2'
  • CA certificate: leave blank or don't validate
  • User certificate: leave blank
  • Identity: Enter your DoE credentials - STUDENTS:  firstname.lastnameX@detnsw, STAFF: firstname.lastnameX@det.nsw.edu.au
  • Anonymous Identity: leave blank
  • Password: Enter your DoE Account Password

Step 3: Tap 'Connect'

Step 4: Launch a web browser, go to http://detnsw.net

Having Trouble?

  • Turn your device off and then back on

  • Ensure that the operating system/software is fully updated (need to do this at home)

  • If Google Chrome doesn't not give you the option to login at http://detnsw.net then open Safari or Edge first, then open Chrome
  • Log Out DoE Internet To Edge Portal & close browser correctly (see picture below), then try http://detnsw.net again
